Here at QFT, we love watching the Oscars - the Gay Super Bowl! - for all the drama and the hype and the presenters and the outfits. (Mostly the outfits.) And while we all know that awards aren’t what determine the worth of a film, awards shows sure are fun, and they give us something to talk about for a few days anyways.
This month, we’re inviting all of our professors to pick from the movies that have landed in the winners’ circle, either as a Best Picture, a Best Screenplay, or maybe for Best Director, an acting award, or costumes or even special effects. It doesn’t matter what the movie won for, we’re gonna talk about them.
LGBTQIA2S+ representation has been creeping more and more into cinema these days — and not always for the best reasons. So we’ll be looking at the history of these award-winning movies and how they either contributed or detracted from the greater queer conversation. And trust us, there’s LOTS to unpack.
And yes, of course, we’ll talk about what everyone was wearing on the red carpet…
